Apple TV 4k 2nd gen
I have arriving tomorrow a Sony XR77A80CJ that I will connecting to an Apple TV 4K 2nd gen. My question is what is the ethernet port for on the Apple TV 4K.

The Ethernet port is umm… an Ethernet port. Most likely, your Internet router/WiFi hub has a few of the same ports available. If you run a CAT-5 cable (aka Ethernet cable) between your router and the ATV4K, the latter will be connected to the Internet without using a WiFi connection. This may provide better performance by keeping all that movie/music/media traffic off of your local airwaves (in more densely populated areas, the WiFi spectrum can be crowded and error-prone).
I just happen to know this because I’m old enough to remember computer networking before ubiquitous WiFi. ****, I remember thicknet, AUIs and DB-15 connectors (pre-Internet / ARPAnet timeframe :-).
