Memory Not Increasing After Deleting Files

After deleting a lot of files and emptying the trash, my memory is the same. I've tried rebooting with no increased storage. I'm not using the cloud and I've turned off the Time Machine. I've restarted my laptop several times, but still the memory remains static. I'm running Monterey 12.1

Try something like OmniDiskSweeper for a GUI to get a good look at itemized file size and location:

The current stable release of Monterey is macOS 12.2.1

1. Emptied the trash.
2. How to link. The problem isn't what to delete, it's that after deleting it does not free up space.
3. When I look at "Storage" in "About This Mac" there's a large grey section of 548.24 GB (over half my 1 TB harddrive) that is labeled as "System Data" that appears to be what is not releasing when I deleted files.
4. Other also isn't the problem in my case.
5. OmniDiskSweeper also doesn't seem to address my problem. Putting files into the trash isn't helpful if deleting those files does not free up space.

Updated Monterey to 12.2.1

You can try by plugging in Time machine to clear local snapshots, or turn off Time Machine from the TM>Preferences

Also see "Thin local snapshots" using the Terminal.app—

Boot in to Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues. So, boot into it to referent caches, go here: How to Use Safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Perform the Following:

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: the shift key upon boot].
  2. Log in: as same user
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac
  5. Log in: as same user

See if this is should as it should be
