Monterey 12.2.1 not appearing in Software Update

Running an M1 MacBook Air on Monterey 12.1 Never received the notification for the 12.2 and now 12.2.1 update. When I check for updates manually, it spins for a few seconds and says "Your Mac is up to date". The internet connection here is fast enough. What is the trick to allow it to recognize the 12.2.1 update?

Restart in Recover Mode and choose the Reinstall macOS.

This may sound odd and yes it is but the Apple Applet Software Update has been having issues for some time.

The Recovery Mode will pull the latest Version of Monterey and commence the Installation without touching Personal Files, Preferences, Setting etc.

Suggest doing a Time Machine Backup before attempting this

It brings me to the App Store link for Monterey and 'Get' sends me to Software Update. It still tries to "find updates', but fails to find one. however….this time there was a small message in the Software Update system pref saying that "this device is managed". Hmm.. It's not managed nor has it ever been. I looked for a Profiles System Pref and there's none.

I should also mention that under the message about "managed" there was a "details" link and when I clicked on that, I got the message attached. I clicked the Restore Defaults button, but still the same behavior — looks for updates then fails to find one.

Terminal command without Quotation Marks "  softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 12.2.1 "

This will download the Full Version of 12.2.1 and place a new Application o=in the Applications folder called " install Monterey "

It will Not Automatically Launch.

The above is predicated on your earlier posting where Monterey 12.2.1 was listed from "  softwareupdate --list-full-installers "

Seems like Apple's database is messed up.

Clicking on Restore Default should have fix as discussed here:

You already said that:

Terminal command without quotation marks "  softwareupdate --list-full-installers "

and

It does list all the way up to 12.2..1

Thus you can reinstall the entire 12.2 w/12,2,1 by downloading and running the full installer for 12.2.1

To download 12.2.1 enter the following in Terminal app:

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 12.2.1

That will download the full installer into your Applications folder

Thank you for the thorough response. It's dawning on me that perhaps the issue is a few weeks ago, I was having an iCloud sync issue that got escalated up to Apple's Engineers. They put my iCloud account into some sort of "access mode" so they could troubleshoot it. It turns they said they refused to help unless I updated ALL of my Macs to the latest Monterey...which is unreasonable in my case for a bunch of reasons. So, they left me hanging with the problem.

Perhaps my account is still in this "access mode" and my Monterey Mac is now "managed" by Apple? Let me pursue that theory with AppleCare.

I had the exact same problem. 2020 M1 MacBook Air on 12.1 says it's up to date. Tried the Mac store link and it did say 12.2.1 but failed to load. Also did the reset default on the update managed by swscan.apple.com. Would still say my Mac was up to date at 12.1.

Finally I realized I had not restarted my laptop in two weeks. Did a restart, and viola! Software Update found 12.2.1 and I was able to install the latest update.
