My iPad Keeps Freezing During SideCar

I also experience this problem in my setup: M1 Pro 14" Macbook Pro + 4th gen iPad Air.

I never tried wired, since I don't usually carry USB-C cables, but wirelessly I can confirm that a few minutes in with a perfectly good connection (and both devices sitting in the exact same position on my desk) that the iPad's screen just freezes in the sidecar window. I can still use the iPad if I switch apps, but the sidecar window remains frozen until I restart the connection on the mac.

I have the same issue on M1 pro Macbook Pro and iPad Pro. I think it's just a straight out bug we can't do anything about until Apple fixes it.

I have the same issue and there is no way to consistently reproduce it. It just happens multiple times every day under any kind of circumstances, wired and wireless. The image on the iPad freezes and there is nothing you can do until you reset the connection between the devices.

This started happening recently to me as well. I don't remember it happening when it was SideCar, but now that it changed to the monitor settings, it freezes up within an hour. Very annoying. I'm using an M1 Macbook and iPad 9. The above-listed steps seem like a lot for a connection that used to work. I agree with pp who said it is likely a bug. I hope Apple gets it worked out soon!

I have the same issue. My iPad Pro 12.9 screen freezes in just a few minutes. I have to disconnect and reconnect, which gets me another 5 or so minutes. It happens when I am connected to my 16-inch M1 MBP wirelessly and tethered with a usb-c cable. Frustrating!

Same issue here. I restarted both but it seems the only way to make the iPad unfreeze is to disconnect and reconnect. Unfortunately it was happening minutes into use after each connection which made it virtually useless.

I am having the same issue. Seems maybe to be because my ipad, though active, is falling asleep somehow? I keep having to enter in my passcode when I touch it, after the freeze happens. Not sure why it's happening though.

It's still happening to me. In addition, often the mouse is trapped on the iPad Pro, and I cannot get it back to the MacBook Pro. The solution is to turn off Wifi and Bluetooth on the iPad Pro. I can't get anything done like this. Happens every few minutes. I have Display lock set to "never".

Not only that, but every time I turn it on, it puts the iPad Pro on the "wrong" side of the MacBook Pro screen - both in Sidecar and Universal Control.

Seems like it has gotten worse and worse with recent updates... anyone else experiencing increased frequency of this issue?

I've got the same exact annoying issue. I actually just bought a brand new iPad pro 12.9'' ONLY to use it as an external monitor while travelling..

+1. Worked mostly flawlessly with 2020 MacBook Pro 13" + iPad Pro. Upgraded to M1 MacBook Pro 14", with same iPad Pro, and now sidecar is unusable, freezes.
