Help with MIDI import

I work with Logic as my DAW and Sibelius as my notation software.

Every time I need to make adjustments to my score in Sibelius, I will get a new MIDI file that usually has changes to the tempo and meter.

I cannot "import" the resultant MIDI file into Logic. Logic only changes the tempo and meter of the project if you "open" the MIDI file.

As a result, I kind of have to start from scratch with every adjustment.

For example, I'm scoring a film. I score a few cues in Sibelius, open the resultant MIDI file in Logic, make my changes in Kontakt, print the results and send it to the client.

But then, when it's time to continue work, and score subsequent cues, I cannot simply "import" the new MIDI file from Sibelius. I have to effectively start a new project by "opening" the MIDI file. Otherwise I don't get the most recent tempo and meter information.

Thus, every time I make a change, I have to re-import the audio/video, what have you. Essentially start from scratch.

Is there any way to force Logic to learn new meter and tempo information in the "import" function?

Furthermore

I've tried a workaround that SEEMS obvious. I have my existing Logic file open. I open the new MIDI file. I copy-paste the information in the Signature List and the Tempo List to my existing project. No. It doesn't work. Everything gets thrown around in weird places, even when SMPTE-locked.

Any solutions here?

It seems like you are looking for the rewire funcionality with Logic and sibelius. With rewire both applications are synced. You "hear" sibelius through the Logic Mixer. You could change the score in sibelius and could play logic's audio at the same time.

I made a little cheat sheet:

Rewire Logic and Sibelius

sibelius8 - logic pro x (host)

Rewire On:

• in Logic: Preferences > Audio > Devices > Rewire behavior: On (live mode)

• quit logic

• in Sibelius: Play > Interpretation > Rewire > enable Tempospur = Play > Performance > Rewire > tempo track

• quit Sibelius

• open logic first

• open logic mixer > options > create aux-channel

• set input of aux-strip to Sibelius

• open Sibelius again

• if correct a rewire-symbol in the Sibelius transport-bar should be shown

Rewire action:

1. Open Logic

2. Open Sibelius

Rewire Off:

• in Logic: Preferences > Audio > Devices > Rewire behavior: Off

• quit logic

• in Sibelius: Play > Setup > Playback Devices > clean up

• quit and restart sibelius

any weird problems ? : Play > Setup > Playback Devices > clean up
