Apple pencil 2 not connecting/charging

So a few days ago I bought an apple pencil to accompany my iPad Pro 11" 2018. It synced right up and it worked perfectly - drawing, writing, pressure sensitivity, charging and

everything was working alright.

The problem started this yesterday morning when I tried to use my apple pencil and it didn't work. When attaching it to the side of the ipad again there's no pop up for charging or connecting. It doesn't even show up in Bluetooth…. I tried everything from turning Bluetooth off and on, restarting, resetting network settings and even factory resetting the iPad but nothing seems to work :(

I read online that if the battery of the pencil hits O it dies but prior to this it was always attached to the side, charged up. I haven't dropped it or anything either so l don't really know what's happening.

Hey there Nigel,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. If we understand your Apple Pencil isn't working as expected. We'd be happy to help!

Based on what you've described, please try the steps below from the Apple Support article Connect Apple Pencil with your iPad - Apple Support:

"If your Apple Pencil won't pair with your iPad

  1. Make sure to center your Apple Pencil (2nd generation) on the magnetic connector on the right edge of the iPad. For an Apple Pencil (1st generation), remove the cap and plug your Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad.
  2. Restart your iPad, then try to pair again.
  3. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. On the same screen, look under My Devices for your Apple Pencil. If you see it, tap . Then tap Forget this Device.
  5. Connect your Apple Pencil in to your iPad and tap the Pair button when it appears after a few seconds.
  6. If you don't see the Pair button, wait for one minute while your Apple Pencil charges. Then try connecting your Apple Pencil again and wait until you see the Pair button.
  7. If you still don’t see the Pair button, contact Apple Support."
