Antivirus,VPN and MAC optimisation

With the New M1 technology,do apple need any antivirus?

VPN is essential if we are in a public place.

PC optimisation like Macpow or mackeeper

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

No. Please do not install Antivirus on an M1 Mac. They are largely useless, and are known to cause more issues than they may actually solve.


VPN is essential if we are in a public place.

That's a personal choice. Unless you absolutely trust the VPN provider, it's not really any more secure than normal. Best practice is to not do sensitive operations such as online banking on a public Wi-Fi network.

Absolutely not. Stay far away from apps that claim to clean or optimize your Mac. They are not needed and are the source of a ton of issues.

  1. Third party anti virus apps have never been needed nor recommended. They use system resources while providing no benefit. They may cause problems.
  2. Do not use a VPN unless you are connecting via a point-to-point secure tunnel to your workplace or other organization. Contact the organization's IT Staff to determine which VPN client to use and how to configure it to connect to the organizations network.
  3. Never use any third party apps that claim to clean, optimize, protect, boost performance, etc. The MacOS is very good at performing these tasks, Third party apps interfere with the MacOS management of the system.
