Stop Tab Pane from opening on Safari Launch
All of a sudden a tab pane has started appearing on the left side of Safari when I launch it.
I don't know why and can't figure out what setting to change.
What do I do to stop this?

That doesn't seem to work for me - the sidebar still appears after I restart Safari holding down the Shift key.
I forgot to add that I am doing this on an old iMac running Catalina.
This is what I get when I restarted Safari holding down the shift key.
Quit Safari.
Launch Safari holding the shift key down.
Click the "Show sidebar" button.
Any idea how to do this in Catalina.
I still haven't figured out how to STOP the sidebar from appearing at launch in Safari in Catalina.
Catalina doesn't seem to have that HIDE SIDEBAR toggle.
I figured it out:
Open a new tab, then go to View → Hide Sidebar ⇧⌘L.
The sidebar will be hidden on new tab pages until you show it again.
