Cannot install Monterey 12.2 update on Intel Mac Mini. It appears to install, but following restart, the System Preferences still shows the update as being required.

Possible reasons for problems:

Do you have enough free disk space?

If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, your Mac needs 26GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, your Mac needs up to 44GB of available storage.

Also uninstall any antivirus and "cleaning" apps before trying installing again.

Further, you need an Apple disk installed to upgrade to Monterey since the upgrade includes an update to the Mac's firmware. That update looks for an Apple disk and write to the dick to do the firmware update. The install will terminate or freeze if no Apple disk.

Are you using Filevault to encrypt the disk? If so turn it off and then try after the de-encrypting is complete. That can take many hours.

Some users have problem with skipping upgrade versions and even not updating to the latest version of Big Sur. Some users have experienced problems by skipping upgrade,es like going from 10.15 to 12 (Monterey). I recommend incrementally upgrading to each sequential version. To find older versions:]

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

Next delete the existing installer which is located in the Applications folder. and redownload and run the Monterey insraller

Download and run this app so we can find more information about your installation.

https://etrecheck.com/upgrade

It shows what is launched and other information and is very useful in finding causes of problems. After you first launch the app make sure you check Enable full disk access in the box in lower left.

After running the app use the app's feature to paste to clipboard. Then paste it in the text box for a reply in this forum click on the addition text icon. This is because the normal reply text box limits how much you can type.

No personal identifiable information is contained if the app output. The app was written for a person who is contributor to these Apple Support Communities

None of your suggestions and/or recommendations are relevant. Please re-read my post. This is an issue being experience by a fairly large number of Mac users. My system is a 2018 Mac mini with 8GB RAM and 1.1 TB HD. Began with a fresh internet sourced install of Monterey, from Apple site, and no other APPS except those Apple APPs installed with Monterey are on the computer. Thank you for replying.
