From iMovie to Final Cut Pro.

I am on a 2012 13" MacBook Pro Catalina 10.15.7. I am comfortable with iMovie but now looking to up my video editing game. I want to use Final Cut Pro but apparently I need Big Sur for FCP. My MBP apparently is not compatible with Big Sur. Any suggestions for work around or alternatives to FCP? THANKS for any guidance.

MacBook Pro 13″, 10.15

Hello bbbjim,

We see you have a question on using Final Cut Pro, and we'd be happy to help provide some info on that.

You may find the system requirements for Final Cut Pro here: Final Cut Pro - Technical Specifications

As the page notes, it does require macOS 11.5.1 or newer as one of the requirements.

The macOS Big Sur requirements can be found here: macOS Big Sur - Technical Specifications

In order to install macOS Big Sur, and thus Final Cut Pro, you would require a newer Mac. The minimum requirement for a MacBook Pro to install macOS Big Sur would be the Late 2013 or newer model.

Cheers.
