Connecting an audio interface to MacBook Air

I've connected my interface to the computer however when trying to use an Audio-Technica mic with this I have to have the gain pushed all the way up to hear anything. In the midi settings there is no adjustment on the input settings as there is with a usb mic.

Connected external microphone isn't showing listed on sound Input on MacBook Air I have an MacBook Air and I'm using GarageBand. So I need to record some voice with my external microphone. I connected it using 3.5 mm aux audio cable. When I go into system preferences - Input - the device isn't listed in Input, but in Output it listed. Any ideas? If it make sense my external microphone is Shure 8700.

Use headphone jack as input I have a new Macbook Pro 13" 2019 w/ four thunderbolt 3 ports. I am trying to use the headphone jack as an input to record music into programs such as GarageBand and Audacity. However, there is no option in the sound settings to use the port as the input. It only shows the built-in microphone as a possible choice for the input. My instrument is plugged in properly to the computer. Can anyone assist me please and thank you?
