iCloud photo sorting by month

until now, my photos in iCloud--accessed through my Macbook--have always been sorted by month/year.

but today, when I went to my photos, although they were in chronological order, there were no longer separated by months. they were all just there lumped together.

was this a new change (if so, why!?!?) or can sorting by month be restored through settings somehow?

I agree...it's not hard to make folders and event files...but...honestly, it's a lot of work if you have not(I'm glad, with the number you have, that you have! HA) but we shouldn't have to. It worked great before and I can find no reason posted anywhere why they changed it. It's not user friendly at all anymore. I never really liked that once I made a folder and added a picture that it was still in my main album. This has made it even harder.

I guess I'm not explaining myself well. The photos are in chronological order, but for the entire time I've been using iCloud, they've also been grouped into different sections according to month by default. So, there was a section "January 2022, December 2021, November 2021, etc. Each group was separated by a line.

Now those groupings/separations are missing, and instead they're just lumped all together, which I find highly inconvenient.

I have the same problem.

it used to be so easy to download pictures taken at a particular day. one click to mark all from that day.

Now there is just the date in the top that change when you scroll but it is not clear when the date change and you then have to highlight each picture once you have worked out the range from a particular date. it takes so much longer now!

Been unable to find fix and this is the first time I manage to find that others who have raised the same issue.

Sort it out Apple!

You may want to send a feature request to Apple and ask to bring back the tabs for the Moments, Months, Years. The feedback form is here: Apple - iCloud - Feedback

I hope, it is not intentional; even for my moderately sized library with just 57000 photos and videos it is impossible to scroll through all photos in this long list to find photos from 20 years ago or so. It is not usable, unless we add the missing organisation back ourselves with folders, subfolders, albums.

For the time being, recreate the missing structure with albums and folders. I have structured my library with folders for groups of ten years, then subfolders for each years, and in these yearly folders subfolders with albums for each major event. This way I can still find my photos quickly by starting from the album sidebar. If you have also a Mac, it is easy to create these folder and albums with smart al ums based on a data range. For example:

I did submit a feedback. Then I requested a call on which I was told there was no way to change the date sorting. I tried to tell them I knew it was NOT like the last time I downloaded a lot which was February. It had ALWAYS been sorted daily since I started using the Cloud. I think once I get my photos downloaded I am going to cease using the Cloud and just transfer directly from my iPhone or iPad to my PC to save. Really disappointing and frustrating.

What this action tells me is that Apple is not the company it used to be. You can expect more sloppy design from now on out. If Jobs was still alive, there is NO WAY this pathetic organizational system would replace a system upon which professionals in the field have relied for years! This backward movement is indicative of letting someone's nephew make the decisions just so they can get their wife to shut up. Really ****** me off.
