My backlit keyboard is not working

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019) and I've never been able to get the backlight for the keyboard to work. It lights up on boot up but none of the controls work after boot up. I have reset the SMC and NVRAM. I turned off automatic keyboard brightness and now that option no longer shows up in system preferences. I've seen in previous posts that others have this same issue and it has not been resolved (all though someone from apple went in there and marked it "solved".). Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a hardware issue.
