How do I stop (or even just delete) Calendar invite spam?

I suddenly started getting lots of Calendar invites from various spam sources. After hunting around a bit, I can't find anyway to stop this spam. In fact, I can't even delete the invites!

I had assumed that all invites originate from Mail, but that is apparently not the case. In the attached screenshot, this invite is not associated with message in Mail.

What is even more frustrating, is that if I clicked "Report Junk", the invite disappears, but the "1" next to the box remains, and just toggling the sidebar shows the spam invite still remains.

What can I do? This is totally new to me. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for trying to help, but unfortunately, that trick did not seem to work.

Some spam invites show up on iCloud, others do not. And some seem to delete, and others do not. So right now I'm just stuck with some undelete-able calendar spam!

I'd be totally happy with a completely offline, internet unaware calendar.

Although you can’t currently report and remove calendar spam on iPhone, iPad, and Mac except to just delete, Apple does have a process for handling this spam via iCloud.com, which may reduce it across all your Apple devices. Here’s how to address calendar invite spam from iCloud calendar:

  1. Go to iCloud on the web and log in from your desktop or laptop computer.
  2. Open the Calendar app once you are in your iCloud account.
  3. Open the spam event and then select “Report Junk.”
  4. Click “OK.”

When you report calendar spam through iCloud, it will also be removed from all Apple devices that are synced with your iCloud account.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Manually Rebuilding Spotlight via Terminal

If the aforementioned Spotlight control panel approach doesn’t spur a reindexation of the drive, you may need to initiate it manually through the command line. Open Terminal and use the following command string to do so:

sudo mdutil -E /

This basically asks for temporary super user status, which is why Terminal may ask you for your password (it may not if you’ve used a sudo command recently or are already logged in as a super user or root. The command asks the unix tool mdutil to reindex the spotlight database for everything on the computer, including external drives, mounted disk images, etc. To re-index only for a specific drive, use the /Volumes path. For example, for an external drive named “MiniMe,” the command would look like this:

sudo mdutil -i on /

Rebuilding a drive index can take a long time, so be prepared to wait whether you do it through the System Preference panel or the command line.

If still need be…

Open Terminal and run each of these one at a time

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network

killall Dock

sudo mdutil -E /

sudo mdutil -i on /
