Based on what I have read, I suggest you leave your Apple ID email address as a 3rd party email address because you have more flexibility if you need to change the email address. For example, if the Apple ID got compromised, you can change it to another address. I also have read of many people who were locked out of their accounts when they forgot their password. Since the recovery email address is the @iCloud email address, if you forget your password, you also can't access your email to get emails from Apple to recover your account. You can set a rescue email address, but for some people, this hasn't worked.

Apple ID - create a new.      *

Apple ID – Create   -

Apple ID - Could Not Create or Could Not Set Up iCloud message.

iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses.   *

iCloud - Create or change email aliases.   -

Per the title here, you do already have “an iCloud ID”, as all Apple IDs include iCloud storage at the free tier.

You can create a second Apple ID with an iCloud email address if you really need that—see the caveats listed above—and you can:

  • use that new Apple ID in parallel,
  • or can reset and transition your iPhone to that other new Apple ID,
  • or can transition your third-party address to a newly-created iCloud email address associated with your existing Apple ID.

But… You don’t indicate why you need a (new) Apple iCloud email address, and I’m wondering if there might possibly be some confusion or misinformation involved here. Some details might help avoid ID remorse.
