dac not recognized after Montery 12.2.1 update

I have a shiit magni 2 and schiit modi 2 that worked flawlessly on my MacBook pro until the latest mac os update. Now it's disappeared from my sound preferences. I've tried it on other devices so I know it's functioning and that the cables are all good. I've looked at past questions from people regarding dac devices that stop working after an update but I don't seem to find any answers.

This seems to be a relatively common issue, how have others solved this problem? I spent a few bucks on this dac combo and I'm annoyed that I suddenly can't use it.
