Change name of a magic mouse and magic keyboard

I just sold my iMac late 2013 (last update of Catalina) and after a clean install it is impossible to change the name of the magic mouse and the magic keyboard to the name of the new owner.

How can I fix this?

You can right/control-click on either device's entry in the Bluetooth preference panel. The secondary menu will offer Rename. That is how I changed my personal name's devices to just their product name on macOS 11.6.4. All done on the same Mac while running in normal boot mode.

Please restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in the  How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support link.

Note: If you are using a wireless keyboard please either plug it in using the supplied Lightning cable that shipped with it. If you are using a legacy keyboard or a third-party keyboard that does not have re-charging abilities, please use any USB keyboard. Also note that a Safe Mode restart may require you to hold down the shift key for up to 5 minutes before the computer starts in Safe Mode. You will know it is in Safe Mode when you see “Safe Mode” in the upper right of the display.

After restarting in Safe Mode, then change the name of the mouse and keyboard as instructed above and then restart normally and test.
