Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Thanks. I’ll try this. There’s no chance of doing this, affecting the way anything else functions is there? I’m no expert and I need the rest of the programs to continue to function as they do….

It should not, but it may not cure an existing problem that is getting worse.. very little chance of worsening things on it's own. :)
