using 2009 iMac 27" as monitor

I am using a 2009 iMac 27" as a monitor for my M1 Mac Mini. The iMac is running Snow Leopard and the Mini is running Big Sur.

I know that I have to keep the iMac in Snow Leopard because the connection doesn't work under Catalina.

My question is, will the connection still work if I upgrade the Mac Mini to Monterey?

It's officially not supported but should continue to work. The 2009 iMac does not use Thunderbolt, and when in Target Display Mode acts just like a Mini DisplayPort display. Unlike Thunderbolt iMacs, they don't need special support on the other computer, so the version of Mac OS that's on the Mac mini shouldn't matter.
