Is there a disadvantage to getting the #7 non connectivity watch vs the #7 connected with the app on the iPhone and what are the disadvantages if any.

I am not sure what exactly are you asking. Are you referring to the Series 7 Apple Watch? There is the Apple Watch with GPS only connectivity or GPS with Cellular connectivity. The Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection with the iPhone is maintained by both models.
