How can I check if my iPad has been hacked?

When I was texting family on iMessage. I noticed in my response area words that I did not type. I did not send the message and deleted. Obviously I was hacked in some way. I changed my apple pw, along with email pw as well as my device pass code. Hopefully this will stop the issue. Is there anything else I should be concerned with or doing? I believe I was hacked through an email and phone call via a false travel site. Is there any way to check to see if my iPad has been hacked?

thanks

Restore to Factory Settings:

If you are so concerned, then restore your iPad to factory settings. Go here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Backing Up Items:

Note that all downloads would be lost. So, make a note of Apps that were downloaded. Also, enable items in iCloud, so that all is backed up. As an example, here is how to backup Contacts...

I. Enable Contacts in iCloud Settings:

Is Contacts enabled in iCloud Settings? If not, then enable it, and see if it pops up. If so, then it is gone amongst all devices associated to your Apple ID. So, to enable it:

A. Enabling on an iPad:

Enable Contacts in iCloud:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: your name (top item)
  3. Tap: iCloud
  4. Tap: Contacts (so that it is green)

and...

B. Enable on a Mac:

Is Contacts enabled in Apple ID on your Mac? If not, enable it.

  1. Go to: System Preferences
  2. Click: Apple ID
  3. Enable: Contacts

Thank you. Do you know how they got into my iMessage. I believe they call this spoofing. It’s the second time it’s happen in the past 6-7 months. The first one intercepted my messages during a conversation. Even my contact picture came through on the other end. The reason the other person recognized it is because the balloon went from blue to green. Should I be doing something else to protect my account? I am using strong apple passwords
