help with Siri

when using Siri to text (from iPhone, not watch) everything works properly until I'm asked " are you ready to send it" at which point I'll say "yes", or I've tried "send"....instead of Siri performing said task, a new text message to same person is typed out saying "yes". Long attempts and story made short, I can't get her to actually send the message through voice command?? what's the deal?
