Possible Malware/Virus? Norton?

Today I booted up my MacBook Pro, and saw a loader that usually comes up when verifying newly downloaded software. It said "Verifying Norton" which feels suspicious to me because I've never installed any antivirus software besides Malwarebytes, and it seems like the perfect cover for a virus to name itself "Norton".

Is there any way to check where recently verified programs have installed themselves? I would really like to check where that message came from. There's no listing for "Norton" in activity monitor.

Go to About this Mac>Overview>Software and click on, on e at a time, Applications and Installations to see like of apps and when things were installed. You can sort those by date by clicking on the date column.

After you click on an Applications of Installation you have to wait for the list to be generated and show in the windows so do not give up early.

Download and run this app so we can find more information about your installation.

https://etrecheck.com/upgrade

It shows what is launched and other information and is very useful in finding causes of problems. After you first launch the app make sure you check Enable full disk access in the box in lower left.

After running the app use the app's feature to paste to clipboard. Then paste it in the text box for a reply in this forum click on the addition text icon. This is because the normal reply text box limits how much you can type.

I don't see any signs of malware (unless you count Chrome's keystone daemons, which do at least harm performance of professional applications severely, due to poor programming, not malice...)

And to set the record straight: I made an unfortunate typo in my previous post. I meant to write: "There are no viruses that can install themselves on the mac. The existing malware..."
