can you convert a pdf table into numbers?

Converting a Numbers document to PDF format creates an image (or set of images) of the Numbers file, but does not affect the original Numbers file itself (as Badunit has noted above).

The original file can be re-opened and edited as desired, unless you have deleted it from your computer. If deleted, you may be able to find an earlier copy in your Time Machine records or in another backup system you are using.

The PDF file is an image of the file, and contains no editable text or formulas, and cannot be opened by Numbers.

What happened to the original Numbers file? Exporting it to PDF creates a PDF copy of it, it does not delete the original Numbers document.

I've had very good luck with PDF to Numbers +, better than PDF to Excel, both by the same developer. As Badunit said, they are not free. You can try a search of the Mac App Store. There are also a couple of online translators, Zamzar & CleverPDF.

I can't say if you deleted it or not but is not something that would have happened on its own. It would have required you to take steps to delete it. But if was a new document never saved previously and you closed it and chose not to save it, that would be equivalent to deleting it.

If all you have is the PDF, you might be able to open it in Preview, copy the data from the table, then paste into a Numbers table. If you are lucky it'll will work or get you close. All the formulas will be gone, though.

I believe the App Store has an app (or several) to import a PDF into Numbers. Probably not free, though. If you go this route, let us know how it worked out.
