hot plug in usb audio card

Hello. I have usb audio card apogee duet and macbook pro 14. Can i plug in my audio card to my macbook without shutdown computer? Is it not dangerous for mac?

USB devices are hot swappable. You don't have to shutdown the Mac to plug it in. However, it may not be immediately recognized.
