Block my name from appearing when I make a phone call or receive a phone call

When I make or receive a phone call on my iphone, I would like only my phone number, not my name, to appear. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There are several scenarios.

Incoming calls:

  • On an iPhone if the incoming number is in your contacts the name is displayed; there is no way to change the way this works
  • If the incoming number is not in your contacts, the number is displayed
  • In some cases your carrier will add a label such as “suspected spam” instead of, or in addition to the phone number
  • If the CALLER has blocked their caller ID you will see one of these: Private, Blocked, No Caller ID

Outgoing calls:

  • If you call another smartphone and your number is in their contacts it will display your name; there is no way to change this
  • Normally, your carrier sends your name and phone number; If you only want them to send your number and not your name you need to call them and ask them to make that change
  • If you don’t want your number to be sent at all you can go to Settings/Phone/Show My Caller ID and turn it off
  • If turning it off doesn’t work you will have to call your carrier and ask them to make this change
  • If you only want to block your number to for specific calls, enter *67 immediately before the number: e.g., *67 555 555 5555
  • If you have AT&T in the US or you are in other countries than the US you may have to use #31# instead of *67 - experiment
  • If you call a toll-free number there is no way to block your caller ID

I think that covers most situations.
