On my IPad Pro - When I press shift & number symbol, it shows the Sterling Pound symbol instead. How do I correct this?

Go to settings > general > keyboard > hardware keyboard and tap over at the right edge. Make sure you have US checked and NOT "automatic" or British.

So you are typing and hold the Shift and then press the 3 key hoping to get the #, and are getting the Sterling Pound symbol? Am I correct? You never said what you were typing in. That allows me the option to try and duplicate this. I have a Smart keyboard on my iPad Pro 11 (2018).
Are you using the on-screen keyboard or a hardware keyboard? What are you typing in, what app?
I am using the Smart Keyboard
