Does playing 1-hour long song count as 1 stream?

Hello,

I am an artist. My question is does playing 1-hour long song count as 1 stream or more than 1. If Apple Music counts 1 play as 1 stream, it seems unfair for artists who distribute longer songs or combine different songs into 1 song.

Thank you and best regards,

Hi tuongfromdallas,

A play count is recorded when a song is played for more than 30 seconds. It doesn't matter what the total length of the item is, if it is played for more than 30 seconds, then it would count as 1 play (or stream). Here's Apple's full definition on play counts:

Plays are recorded when a user initiates song playback in Apple Music for more than 30 seconds. We provide a wholistic view of all Plays, including Plays from Apple Music radio stations. (Apple Music radio stations are created when a user picks a song or an artist to generate a custom radio station, or from an Apple Music curated radio station.)
