It seems to me that the reply does not answer the question, and I have the same problem.
System Data, in this example, is taking up 112 GB, while the categories above comprise a far lower total.
Maybe this has something to do with old backups, old system files, external storage????

PS: above are screenshots of my MacBook Pro SSD.
This isn't helpful, System Data isn't affected by these procedures...
