Notation - If the user is using a cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner - suggest tweaking the Safety Net Feature in this software. It may be making addition Snap Shots that are not being Cloned to the Eternal Drive. If this should be the case, these Snap Shot could be using additional space on the drive
The final word from Apple on Managing the " Other/ System Data “ Category
Other / System Data: Contains files that don’t fall into the categories listed here. This category primarily includes files and data used by the system, such as log files, caches, VM files, and other runtime system resources. Also included are temporary files, fonts, app support files, and plug-ins. You can't manage the contents of this category. The contents are managed by macOS, and the category varies in size depending on the current state of your Mac.
Thanks, I solved my problem, I used "command + shift + period (.)" and arranged by size and , lo and behold, the "cores" file was taking upon 1.6 TB.
As it turns out, I had a camera viewing app (SmartPSS) that was generating a 10 GB core dump every time I quit.
Deleted the core dumps, updated the app and good as new.
BTW, I found it by trial and error as I could not find out how to read a core dump.
I just left the finder window opened and watched to see if any news core dumps happened as I used various apps and I got a new dump whenever I viewed my cameras remotely
Would suggest from this link to their site

After all, it is their Product to support just like Apple to Support Apple Software and Hardware
Thanks, but I found it in the Core file, I am getting 2-5 core dumps a day at 7-10 GB each, the core file was 1.6TB
Any ideas on how I see what is causing the core dumps?
Found the culprit, or at least one of them.
My camera monitoring software generates 1-10 GB core file every time I close it, it is called SmartPSS
Is there some Third Party Software installed that came with the Camera.
If so, that would be the first course of action to explore - Developer Software
Yes
It is called SmartPSS
I need to use it but now I will just delete the core dump every time I close it
I know that is just a workaround but I can’t find an updated version of the app
Thanks for your help
That did it!
Thanks Dahua had an update for the M1 processor on this site. I deleted all the core dumps and I am as good as new.
Have you checked the local snapshots for TimeMachine in Terminal? That ate up a TON of my HD space.
Your are welcome and thank you too 🇨🇦
