M1 MacBook Pro 16 not recognizing external drives.

I had a question for the community but was able to solve it myself.

I purchased a 16 MBP M1X proc. I initially tried using the USB-C Apple cables that I had used before on my Intel Mac. None of them worked. So I tried using a cable that came with the external drive and voila, it worked. It seems that neither Apple cables nor adapters work with the M1 processor. This very sad when you think about it. My Belkin, WD, etc... cables work while Apple cables and adapters don't. Terrible job Apple.
