Apple Watch Series 7

Good morning, I just bought a brand new apple watch series 7 from apple and, I am having trouble with the notifications. notifications are only presented on one device and not both. As I would like to have an imessage come in I would like it to be notified on both my phone and watch and at the moment it will only vibrate or ring on one device.
