Can I play You Tube videos while surfing the web?

Question

I’m New to Apple products and I would like to play my YouTube videos while surfing the web or working in the background, how do I do it?

From what I have seen on the free version of YouTube‘s website in Safari, anytime you switch tabs, or apps, YouTube playback is muted/paused.

I don’t know if this holds true for a paid subscription to YouTube.
