If your car does not have a suitable USB outlet with which to charge your iPad, there are 12V Power Adapters readily available:

Here are some examples marketed by Apple:

  • mophie USB-C Car Charger

  • mophie Dual USB-A Car Charger

  • mophie USB-A Car Charger

  • mophie Dual (USB-C/USB-A) Car Charger

Each will obviously require a charging cable suitable for your model of iPad - having either a Lightning or USB-C connector.

You could also keep a battery charging pack (Power pack) in your car which could recharge your iPad. The adapters in many cars may not have enough power for the latest generation of phones and iPads.

Make sure to check all the specifications of the Power pack you are interested in to verify if there is sufficient power output to br compatible with your iPad.

As a general rule you need the Power pack to deliver at least 18W and for fast charging you'll need 30W. That's 30W from the port you will use. Be careful. most Power packs quote the power output across all USB slots, so whilst they may say maximum power output is 30W, that could mean it is max 30W across all slots but with a max of 18W per slot. To be safe buy from a reputable store where you can take advice.

There is no free lunch in buying a cheaper version for China. Often the stated storage and output are just simple lies. In general, the bigger the Power pack, and the heavier it is, the more likely it will power up your iPad fast. The weight, size, brand, and price are trade-offs that you will need to consider. I like a small device in my pocket and a large Power pack in the glove compartment of my car.
