Custom Ringtone

After setting custom ringtone on my iPhone 13 mini, some calls still ring with the default. An Apple rep did a screen share and found nothing wrong. Three of the calls were marketing calls. Any ideas of how my phone settings are being bypassed?

Hello SolvangRider,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! Try setting a different ring tone to see if the same thing occurs. This will let you know if there's an issue with all of the ringtones or just this specific one. Here are the steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Under Sounds and Vibration Patterns, tap the sound that you want to change.
  3. Tap a ringtone or alert tone to hear and set it as the new sound.

Ringtones on iTunes aren't full songs, they're just snippets.

This information is provided in Use tones and ringtones with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Best Regards.

OK, I experimented with ringtones:

  1. My phone is set to automatically update
  2. I tried a different custom ringtone but had the same results (reverts to default on some calls)
  3. Next, I tried going to a different factory ringtone (Crystals). This seemed to correct the problem.
  4. Then I went back to a different custom ringtone (created with Guitar Band). After 1 day of success, I just got a legitimate call that reverted back to Crystals.

This is more of a nuisance than a serious problem, but it would be nice to have more control over my ringtone preference.

Any further suggestions? Thanks

I spoke with a Apple rep who escalated this up a level and he asked me to delete the Garage band ringtones and then recreate them to see if that worked. I did two versions: First, I created a 28 second ringtone but when I saved it I got a message that it was too long and would be automatically shortened which I did. Second, I created a 25 second ringtone that didn't need to be shortened.

The results with either version were the same as before, it occasionally reverts back to the default ringtone (Reflections).

Please tell me I'm not the only customer with this problem, it is annoying.

Thanks...
