Face ID no longer working on Notes

I have some locked Notes on my phone and used Face ID to unlock them as I wouldn’t remember the password, this has worked fine for ages but now suddenly it requires a password (which I can’t recall!) and isn’t giving me the option of Face ID (which is working on everything else!). Starting over with a new password on new notes is no good, I need access to my old notes for work stuff! What can I do? Seeing questions from 2018 with the same problem and seemingly no solution?

The way faceID works is that it will let you use Face ID instead of password until such a time that something happens or the system decides on a refresh. It happens with all sorts of apps.n It happens if you restart your phone. It happens with my banking apps. Then it will want to use your password to reset the Face ID access.

That is why you need to write down the password.

Without remembering the password there is now no way round unlocking your locked notes, Apple cannot help either.
