can you have two remotes for the same TV

We would like to have two remotes for the same TV in our bedroom on opposite sides of the bed. I can pair both of them, however when I pair the second one it looses the first one and on and on. Is there a way to pair both so they will work without loosing one each time?

What is your model Apple TV? Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

Users can pair one Siri Remote to Apple TV (4th generation or later) at a time. You may use additional software remotes (e.g. on iPhone) or (universal) IR remotes.

Users can link one Apple Remote (aluminum) to Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier). Apple TV (3rd generation) can be used with the software remote too.
