How do I turn off clamshell mode?

Is there a way to turn off clamshell mode? I have an external monitor always connected and clamshell mode being permanently on with no way obvious way to disable makes it very frustrating trying to put the macbook to sleep with the lid down.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.1

How about enabling a Hot Corner to put the display to sleep and then the MacBook will sleep?

System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Hot Corners button in the bottom-right. Set a corner to Put Display to Sleep

The Mac will then go to sleep so long as you haven't check the option in Energy Saver / Battery -> Power to prevent the Mac from sleeping while the display is sleeping.

If that doesn't work please open Terminal and issue the following command to list your power management setting status and then reply back with the results.

pmset -g
