New 14 MacBook Pro won't accept WPA2 password

I just got a my MacBook Pro yesterday but it won't accept my WPA2 password. I spent an hour with apple support but they were unable to help me. They kicked it up to a Senior Tech and said that person would call me. It's 6 hours later and no call.

My old MacBook Pro, iPad Air 4, and iPhone have no problems connecting to the internet. I've tried restarting, renewing DHCP lease, changing router password, changing wifi password, resetting the router but nothing helps. I'm about ready to return it because I'm beyond frustrated at this point

One obscure item that has brought some users relief:

• set

System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > (advanced) > TCP/IP > IPv6 ... to Link-local only

ON may cause routing activity that interferes with your networking. OFF will make it hard to find printers and other services on your network.

-------

also,

If you have enabled ANY VPN features in system preferences > network

these can interferer with regular network operation.

The Apple Time Capsule (and its twin that is tall but does not have a drive inside) are not obsolete, and it continues to have the ability to create home networks. It is no longer the Top performer it was when released, because newer Routers have additional features. I am using an Apple tall Router as one of several Routers in my Home network.

Be sure you have gone through the steps in this article:

If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi - Apple Support

On older version Of MacOS, you need to hold down the Option key to get the menu they are calling the Wi-Fi status menu. And when you do, you also get a snapshot of your current connection. It looks like this older one:

If you could screenshot or transcribe those numbers, it would be helpful in determining what's going on.

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if you have the same problem. If Safe Mode works, then you likely have some third party software that is interfering with the normal operation of macOS (usually anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, and third party security software).

Try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.

It is possible that the laptop's WiFi or antenna is bad. You do have 14 days to return the laptop for any reason.

I have an Airport Time Capsule that I bought in 2017 (I think it was refurbished). I tried putting the computer in safe mode but got the same response. I went to the Apple Genius Bar and it connected fine there. They did diagnostics to rule out a hardware issue. The guy said it's not 100% reliable etc....

Since all my other devices connect with no issues could it be the router because it's older?

It's set to WPA2Personal. I'm hesitant to buy a new router if that isn't the issue. I don't know enough about this stuff to make any sort of informed decision.

The guy at Apple said to try erasing macOS, if the issue persisted once I got home but when I started to go that got a warning that I would need an internet connection to restore. The guy at Apple said otherwise. Gotta say I am way under impressed with Apple's techs. It has gone far downhill from a few years ago. I was able to update the software while at Apple but that didn't fix the home issue.

The network seems fine. I am willing to contact xfinity if necessary.

I'd like to try to keep the MBP but will return it if I can't figure something out in the next few days. I have until the end of March to return it.

I'm concerned at the amount of work and time this has taken up given I just received it late Weds afternoon. I'm concerned this will continue to happen even if I manage to find a fix. I thought about exchanging it (purchased through Amazon) because that seemed to have worked for others (not everyone) but am not sure I won't have the same issue.

Are there ways to test the router? I googled to see whether the Time Capsule is compatible with M1 chips. it seems others are using it with no issues. Everything else--my other MPB, Air 4, iPhone, printer, no issues

Thanks for any other help
