Iphone erased of all content and settings?

I got a new phone and am supposed to send my old phone in for trade in. I signed out of icloud on the old phone, but I don't think I tapped erase contents and settings before taking the sim card out. When the old phone turned back on, it had the hello screen. Does that mean the phone is erased of all content? Is it safe for me to send the phone in?
