Admin Password Lost or Not Working

For some reason after an upgrade I can’t add new printer software cause I don’t have the right ( admin) password. How do I reset the admin password.

Verify your Account Type:

The account you are logged into... It is an administrator account? IF so, then you are an administrator, and all show work just fine.

  1. Go to: System Preferences
  2. Select: Users & Groups
  3. Look for: "Admin" below your user name (left of window)

Getting this File Back:

That error message shows that it is non-existent (or has been relocated). So, you need to reinstall the macOS to place it back in there. Thing is, you wouldn’t be able to do that without the administrator password. So, see if something at this post helps: rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone: No such file or directory - Apple Community

Create the New Admin:

Yes. I agree: Create a new admin usern and password. See if you can then find out the name of the current one by going into System Preferences > Users & Groups. If you have nothing to fear of losing, then thrash the one you current have on there, if you never think you get back in. It’s you call.
