I have no idea why this is so difficult.

I am attempting to print a document in Word and I cannot change from two-sided to one-sided but there is no option to do so. There is nothing that says "show details". There are only default settings and they cannot be altered.

HOW DO I CHANGE PRINTER SETTINGS???

Click on the "Copies and Pages" and change it to "Layout" there should be an option there to change from two-sided to single-sided printed. I think the Presets menu above and Show All Presets will get you to where you can change the default moving forward with other documents you will print. There may also be buttons and controls on the printer itself to adjust the default.
