MacBook keeps popping an obsolete email address and asking me to log in iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime.

i had that email address some years ago; it was my Apple ID for a while; it was closed and cannot be recovered. I had the same issue before and I do not remember how I fixed it. The problem reappeared after I undated my IOS a few days ago.

My MacBook is logged in with my current Apple ID; when I click my name, it does show my current Apple ID, and associated Apple devices. But a window keeps popping out and asking me to type my PIN for that obsolete email address in order for my computer to use iCloud with this MacBook, similar situation is true to my iMessage and FaceTime apps as well.

I called Apple support; apparently this was something new to her, the Apple support representative. We both got frustrated and eventually I was cut off.

I am not sure if this is a common problem? Do I have some unwelcome adware or virus in my computer? Can it be fixed? Or I should just delete everything and reinstall the system? Anyway I am just lost.

It would be really appreciated if someone can offer me help or advise.

Hello Jeff, thanks for taking time to respond to my posting. The good news is that I already fixed it and I am happy to share how I did it, hoping it would be helpful to others who may encounter similar issues.

The problem was lying in the Keychain. Somehow that dead email was still stored in the keychain memo as my Apple ID though it was some years ago; it came out to cause trouble after system update. Problem was gone after I deleted anything and everything with that particular email address, one piece by one piece.

It seems simple now but it took me a whole day by talking to support agents, reading online postings and playing with my MacBook, and finally got it fixed.

wish this may be useful to somebody.

regards,

Lotus

Hi LotusQ!

We're happy to assist with this issue of your Mac prompting you to enter old Apple ID information. Is there a specific app you're opening or other action that you're taking that seems to cause this to happen? Also, what exactly do you see when being prompted for this account information? The answers to these questions may help us to understand the issue more clearly.

In some instances, apps from the App Store may have been installed using the old Apple ID. If that's the case, you would need to delete and reinstall those apps using your current Apple ID.

Cheers!
