Photos from last week not syncing

I have Monterey on my iMac and the latest iOS. I first synced my iPhone to my Mac to update Photos with new pics in the Recents on the iPhone. I chose the option to remove the photos from the iPhone. The recent photos are safe on the Mac. Then I synced photos from the Mac to the iPhone selecting the all photos option. Oddly, pictures from the last 7 to 10 days that are on the Mac from my iPhone syncing do not sync back to the all photos on the iPhone. The last photo on the iPhone is February 27 and today is March 5. I re synced two or three times and no joy. Is there anything I might be missing?

I am not. I sync to the Mac only, no need for iCloud.

Well, I strongly suggest iCloud Photos as it seamlessly syncs your photos. It also creates a backup.

However, see: Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or PC - Apple Support. You may need to restart both devices and make sure your Mac and iPhone are both fully up-to-date, then try again.
