card verification phone number

I've been trying to activate apple pay with my debit card, but whenever I get to the verification part, the phone number it tries to send the code to is an old one from years ago that I no longer have nothing to do with.

Furthermore, I've removed all but my current number from the settings & contacts on my phone so I have no idea where it's still pulling this number from.

There is no option to use a different number on the verification screen and if I go into the wallet settings and look at the pending card, it shows my current phone number as active.

What gives? How do I fix this?

Hello lagdroid,

Are you having this prompt to verify with your phone number during the setup process?

Verify you have the correct information with your bank as well as verification process on their end:

Apple Pay participating banks in Canada, Latin America, and the United States

You will also need to verify the correct information is set up via your Apple ID and associated accounts.

We hope this helps.

Cheers.

Hello lagdroid,

It sounds as if you are set up on two-factor authentication and are having an issue getting the verification code.

There are a couple of ways to get this code. Here is the first method from Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support. Be sure to check all of them if needed.

If you have a trusted device running iOS 9 and later, OS X El Capitan and later, iPadOS 13 and later, or watchOS 6 and later, the verification code is displayed automatically on your trusted devices. 1. Sign in with your Apple ID and password on a new device or browser.2. Look for a sign in notification on any of your trusted devices. 3.Tap Allow to receive your verification code.4.Enter the verification code on your other device to complete sign in.

You may want to add your current phone number to your Trusted Devices: Manage two-factor authentication for your Apple ID from iPhone - Apple Support

Cheers.

none of these are my issue and as such, do not help me.

I have no issue logging in to my account on any device, I can get verification to as device passcode, as a text message and in my email.

The problem is the verification part of activating a card on apple pay.

It requires me to receive a code as a text message, which in itself is not an issue, however it's only willing to send it to one number.

A number that I haven't had access to in nearly a decade.

I have removed this number from everywhere I can think of on my phone and my apple ID info and yet it still keeps insisting to use that old number.

There is no option to use a different number nor a different verification method.

I can either give the go-ahead to send the code to this number (which I do not want to do considering it's likely being used by someone else nowadays), or cancel, both of which get me nowhere.

The apple pay feature would be extremely useful for me and it is frustrating that I can't use it just because of an oversight in the verification process.
