how do you update iphoto

I have iphoto and i haven't been able to access it for a while. When I click on it it says iphoto isn't supported in this version of mac0S. How do I update or get it to work?

You will need to migrate your iPhoto Library to the new Photos application. Press the option key and launch Photos. A dialog will appear where you select the iPhoto Library, and when done, you will have a Photos Library. Your original iPhoto Library will not be touched.
