Import media from Google Drive to iMovie (M1)

I have hit and miss success with iMovie being able to access Google Drive files.

Yesterday, I was working in iMovie and Google Drive was visible and files available. Ran into an issue where some 4K 60FPS files were bogging it down, so I rebooted. After that, the Google Drive folders disappeared from the sidebar. I can see the shortcut to Google Drive as an alias when I drill down into my "users" folders, but the shortcut brings up nothing.

I have enabled full file access for both iMovie and Google Drive, but only because I couldn't think of anything else.

Mac: M1 2020 running 11.6

Google Drive: 55.0.3.0 (Apple Silicon)

Any ideas?

I've never used Google Drive so I really can't give you much input. Perhaps others on this forum will chime in.

Also, you might benefit from contacting Google Drive help from the Google Drive forum website, or posting your question on its forum.

As I understand it, Google Drive is a cloud based program. Therefore nothing in its content would be accessible by iMovie unless the file were downloaded to your Mac or to the Photos app. It appears that the Google Drive desktop app is a sync app designed to facilitate the download process. I guess that you are saying you are not able to see the Google Drive thumbnails of the files that are in the cloud, or maybe cannot find the Google Drive app on your Mac at all, after rebooting? But you could see them yesterday. I have no idea why that would happen. You said that the Alias brings up nothing. If the original file were not on your Mac, as I recall when you click on the Alias you would get a message that the source file is missing. Have you tried a Spotlight search for the Google app?

Sorry that I haven't more input to give.
