I am the owner of an M1 with the OS Big Sur 11.6.4. My storage capacity has been 411gb for months. However, a few days ago I noticed the storage capacity dropped to 400 gb. I have not downloaded any programs or large files onto my computer and wanted to know what may have caused this?

macOS Monterey is now available to install, which is a newer version of macOS. It is recommended that you keep your Mac updated.

Your storage space will fluctuate with everything you do; if you type an email and save the sent copy, it will occupy storage space. That is because the "storage space" isn't just that - it also holds the OS and all its system files on it and they take up room.
