AirDrop doesn't work when connected to an external monitor

I've been having this problem for as long as I've had the LG UltraFine 4K (Updated) monitor. Whenever my MacBook Pro is connected to the monitor (via Thunderbolt), the AirDrop window in the Finder does not register any mouse input. I have to press ESC on my bluetooth keyboard or force quit the Finder to get the window to close. Sometimes I am able to use AirDrop with the TouchBar, but the device I am trying to send files to (usually my iPad) does not always show up on the list of devices on the TouchBar. When I unplug my laptop from the external display, AirDrop works without any issues, but this is an inconvenient workaround.

Same issue here. It only happens when the MacBook is connected to external monitors. You are unable to click on the person you want to send the airdrop to but the airdrop popup is there.

I did found a workaround but it is tedious, when the airdrop popup opens, just open the MacBook, you can then airdrop. Once done just close your MacBook. It seems like it's a glitch when MacBook is closed...
