My Apple remote is paired with the Apple TV. But it will not operate the functions. I also tried to connect my iPhone and that will not work either
The Siri Remote (1st generation) is not compatible with Apple TV (3rd generation).
Please use the Apple Remote (aluminum), same as originally bundled with that model Apple TV.
You will need to link a replacement remote to the box.
